VitalSource: How a Professor Accesses the LTI

Let's take a look at how professors in VitalSource partner schools access JoVE LTI using different LMSs

🎓 Canvas

  1. Open your Canvas course
  2. Go to the Modules section
  3. Create a new module or choose an existing one
  4. Click the "+" (Add) button inside the module
  5. Select External Tool
  6. Choose VitalSource from the list
  7. Click Add Publisher Tool
  8. Select JoVE from the list of available publishers (when applicable)
  9. The JoVE LTI interface will open — proceed to select your content

🎓 Blackboard

  1. Open your Blackboard course
  2. Go to Content or Content Area in the course menu
  3. Click Build Content
  4. Select VitalSource from the list of tools
  5. Click Add Publisher Tools
  6. Select JoVE from the list of available publishers (when applicable)
  7. The JoVE LTI interface will load — select the content based on your adopted ISBN

🎓 Blackboard Ultra

  1. Open your Blackboard Ultra course
  2. In the left menu, go to Content
  3. Click the "+" button where you want to add the content
  4. Select Content Market
  5. Choose VitalSource from the list of tools
  6. Click Add Publisher Tools
  7. Select JoVE from the list of available publishers (when applicable)
  8. The JoVE LTI interface will load — select the content based on your adopted ISBN

🎓 Moodle

  1. Open your Moodle course
  2. Turn editing on
  3. Click "Add an activity or resource" in the section you want
  4. Choose External Tool
  5. In the configuration screen, select the pre-configured tool (VitalSource)
  6. Click Add Publisher Tools
  7. Select JoVE from the list of available publishers (when applicable)
  8. The JoVE LTI window will appear — select and insert your content

🎓 Brightspace (D2L)

  1. Open your Brightspace course
  2. Go to the Content section
  3. Choose the module where you want to add JoVE content
  4. Click Add Existing
  5. Select VitalSource
  6. Click Add Publisher Tools when prompted
  7. Select JoVE from the list of available publishers (when applicable)
  8. The JoVE LTI interface will appear — choose the content linked to your adoption
