What is LTI? What version of LTI are you supporting?
LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) is a specification developed by 1EdTech to seamlessly integrate third-party learning tools with educational platforms, such as Learning Management Systems (LMS). JoVE currently supports LTI version 1.3, the latest version, offering enhanced security, reliability, and a streamlined user experience.
How do I implement LTI in my LMS?
Implementing LTI involves configuring your LMS to connect with the external tool using LTI credentials. The LMS administrator is responsible for setting up the integration and ensuring that the correct endpoints, keys, and security settings are properly configured. Once set up, the tool can seamlessly communicate with the LMS, enabling smooth content access and user experience.
Where does student/teacher data reside? Europe or the USA? Are they subject to European law?
Our current infrastructure is using a US-based AWS data center. For details on our GDPR practices, please visit: https://app.jove.com/about/policies#GDPR
What data will be gathered? Will JoVE have access to personally identifiable information, (Ex: Name, home address, email, phones, etc) or sensitive personal information (Ex: Social security numbers, student IDs, etc.)?
Our tool collects users’ names, email addresses, and grade values for JoVE quizzes. This data is used solely to facilitate seamless integration, track user progress, and support learning outcomes. JoVE does not collect sensitive personal information, such as home addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, or student IDs.
How can educators view student answers and scores for a quiz uploaded to the LMS?
If educators log into their JoVE account, they can access a detailed report showing how students responded and scored to specific questions.
How does the LTI tool identify and match users in JoVE and the LMS, considering that professors may not always use the same email in both systems?
Matching is done through the email address associated with the user's LMS account.
When using LTI, where are the grades stored in the LMS?
Grade values are stored in the LMS gradebook and on the JoVE Quiz page of the user who created the quiz.
Is Single Sign-On (SSO) enough for educators to share videos in their LMS with students, or do they need to create a JoVE account?
Users don’t need to create separate JoVE accounts. When launching the LTI tool, the email address linked to their LMS account is sent to JoVE. This process will either:
- Sign the user into an existing JoVE account if one already exists for that email, or
- Automatically create a new JoVE account with that email and sign the user in.
Are there browser limitations? What are the recommended browsers?
The LTI tool may encounter issues if third-party cookies are blocked. To ensure smooth functionality, we recommend users disable this setting in their browser. Supported browsers include Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. Please note that Safari blocks third-party cookies by default, so users will need to manually enable them when using this browser.
