Setting Up JoVE Content with Brightspace

Integrating JoVE content into your Brightspace courses is simple and can be done through several methods, including embedding videos, uploading common cartridge files, or using JoVE’s LTI tool. Below are the main steps for each method:

1. Embedding JoVE Videos

You can embed individual JoVE videos directly into your Brightspace course content.

• Steps:
  1. Log into your JoVE account. If you don’t have one, sign up at JoVE Account and select the “Professor/Instructor” role.
  2. Log into Brightspace and navigate to the module where you want to include the video.
  3. Click 'New Unit', name the unit, and choose 'HTML document'.
  4. Paste the embed code from the JoVE video into the HTML editor and save.
  5. Make the content visible to students by dragging the 'Hidden' button to 'Visible'.

2. Loading a Common Cartridge File

You can request a common cartridge to integrate multiple JoVE videos into Brightspace at once.

• Steps:
  1. Request a common cartridge from your JoVE Curriculum Specialist by emailing CustomerSuccess@jove.com.
  2. Log into Brightspace, select your course, and click on the Settings button.
  3. Choose 'Import/Export/Copy Components' from the dropdown.
  4. Select 'Import Components from a course package' and upload the common cartridge.
  5. The videos will be available in your course under the content menu.

3. Using JoVE LTI Tool

JoVE’s Learning Tool Interoperability (LTI) tool provides an easy way to integrate videos, playlists, and quizzes directly into Brightspace.

• Steps for LTI 1.3 Tool:
  1. Log into Brightspace and go to 'Add Existing' in your course.
  2. Select 'JoVE LTI Tool 1.3'.
  3. Choose the videos, playlists, or quizzes you want to add from the JoVE content library.
  4. Click 'Submit' to integrate the selected content into your course.
