JoVE LTI Integration Overview
JoVE supports integration with learning management systems through both LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3 standards. This integration allows institutions to provide secure, single sign-on access to JoVE content directly from within their LMS environment, creating a seamless experience for both instructors and students. LTI, or Learning Tools Interoperability, is a standard developed to enable smooth communication between content providers such as JoVE and institutional LMS platforms.
Supported Content Types
Through LTI integration, JoVE content can be added directly into LMS courses in multiple formats. Supported content includes videos, playlists, quizzes, tests, and SCORM packages, making it easy for faculty to embed instructional resources into their teaching materials and course modules. This helps institutions expand access to JoVE resources while supporting flexible course design.
Supported LMS Platforms
JoVE is compatible with a wide range of LMS platforms, including Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, Brightspace, Schoology, and other major systems. This broad compatibility allows institutions to implement JoVE within their existing digital learning ecosystem without requiring major changes to their LMS infrastructure.
Key Benefits
JoVE’s LTI integration is designed to improve usability, access, and administrative efficiency. Key benefits include seamless integration of JoVE resources into courses, secure transfer of user access through single sign-on, and the ability to maximize institutional use of the JoVE subscription. Because users can access content directly through the LMS, there is no need to create separate individual JoVE accounts in many use cases.
Setup and Implementation
JoVE’s Learning Technologists work directly with institutional LMS administrators to support the setup of LTI integration. This implementation support is provided at no additional cost. Once the integration is complete, faculty can use JoVE instructional videos and related resources more easily within their courses, helping improve the teaching and learning experience.
Getting Started
To begin setup, institutions should connect JoVE with their LMS Administrator and, if needed, schedule a demo with the JoVE team. For more information or to begin the implementation process, contact edtech@jove.com.
