Embed JoVE Content into other Platforms

JoVE provides educators and researchers with the ability to embed high-quality, peer-reviewed scientific videos across various platforms. This guide will walk you through the steps to embed JoVE videos into learning management systems (LMS), websites, blogs, and other platforms that support embedded content.

Step-by-Step Guide to Embedding JoVE Videos

1. Access the Video on JoVE

To embed a JoVE video, start by navigating to the specific video you wish to share.

  1. Log in to your JoVE account.
  2. Search for the video you want to embed.
  3. Once on the video page, click on the video to open the full player view.

2. Retrieve the Embed Code

JoVE makes embedding videos easy by providing a pre-generated embed code.

  1. On the video page, locate the "Embed" button (usually near the video player).
  2. A new window will display an HTML code snippet. Click on Copy the Embed Code to your clipboard.

3. Embedding in Learning Management Systems (LMS)

JoVE videos can be embedded in popular LMS platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and others.

  1. Open the LMS platform and navigate to the course or module where you wish to embed the video.
  2. Look for an option to "Add Media," "Insert Content," or switch to the HTML editor (depending on the platform).
  3. Paste the embed code into the HTML editor or media insertion field.
  4. Save your changes, and the video will be available for students to view.

Note: Some LMS platforms have dedicated "Embed" fields where you can directly paste the JoVE code without needing to enter the HTML view.

Embedding in Google Classroom

While Google Classroom does not support direct HTML embedding, you can still share JoVE videos by linking to the content.

  1. Copy the URL of the video.
  2. Create a new post or assignment in Google Classroom.
  3. Click on the "Link" option and paste the JoVE video URL.
  4. Students can click on the link and view the video directly on JoVE.

Troubleshooting

  • Video Not Playing: Ensure that the platform you’re embedding on allows HTML5 video embeds. Some platforms may block certain types of embedded media or require additional settings.
  • LMS Compatibility: If the video does not display in your LMS, check with your platform’s support for specific media embedding guidelines. In some cases, plugins or settings need to be adjusted.
