Follow these detailed steps to seamlessly add JoVE content to your Moodle Learning Management System (LMS).
Step 1: Prepare the JoVE Common Cartridge File
- Download the JoVE common cartridge file from your JoVE account or as provided by your JoVE representative.
- Rename the file extension from .imscc to .zip:
- Right-click on the file, select Rename, and change the extension.
- Confirm any prompts to change the file type.
- Unzip the file:
- Extract the contents of the .zip file to a folder on your computer.
- Locate the wiki_content folder:
- Navigate to the unzipped folder and open the wiki_content folder.
- Select and compress videos:
- Highlight all the video files in the wiki_content folder.
- Right-click and choose Compress or Create Zip File to create a new zipped folder containing these files.
Step 2: Set Up the Moodle Course Module
- Log in to your Moodle LMS.
- Open the course where you want to add the JoVE content.
- Enable editing mode:
- Click the gear icon or Turn editing on button to allow modifications to the course.
Step 3: Create a Book Resource in Moodle
- In your course, click Add an activity or resource.
- From the list of options, select Book.
- Name your Book:
- Enter a title that reflects the JoVE content, such as "JoVE Video Library."
- Click Save and Display to create the Book resource.
Step 4: Import JoVE Content into the Book
- Open the Book you created.
- In the top-right corner of the Book interface, click the dropdown arrow next to the cog icon.
- Select Import chapter from the menu.
- Upload the zipped folder created in Step 1.
- Click Import and confirm by selecting Continue.
Step 5: Manage the Content in the Book
- Use the Table of Contents on the right-hand side of the Book interface to organize your content:
- Reorder chapters by dragging them into the desired order.
- Hide chapters if you want to make certain videos unavailable to students.
- Delete chapters if necessary.
Result: JoVE Content Successfully Integrated into Moodle
After completing these steps, your JoVE videos will be integrated and neatly organized within your Moodle course. Students can now easily access the content as part of their learning materials.
